We had one last night together as a group in the hostel. It was elliot’s birthday so we salsa danced it up in a little bar down the street, the big group of gringos in the center of the dance floor making fools of ourselves.
The next day at 9 we all got picked up by our moms. One by one, but I was the first. I followed her out to the car and looked back up at my window with all my new friends peering out back at me, Buena suerte! We had a semi awkward car ride of small talk, we dropped my stuff off at my new home and went to meet my counsins and my sisters. And then to the house of my grandmother for lunch with some other aunts and uncles. My mama, abuela, y yo went on a little driving tour of the down town area. We walked around the panacillo, the angle on the top of the hill overlooking the city. With a very pretty view of the whole city north and south. Its actually more like two cities because nobody from the north, the wealthier safer part of the city, ever goes to the south and you can see the difference.
After that my mama took me on my bus route to and from school so I would knew how to do it the next day on my own. We went back to my cousins house to hang out a bit then home. and early to bed for class the next day.
